I have a 1999 Dauntless 18 that I would like to mount the fishing
seat receptacle on the flat surface that is just to the rear of the
anchor locker. I have seen it installed here in brochures and have
identified the appropriate base from swivel eze. My question is how
do I determine if their is additional support located here by Whaler
as part of the building process so I can simply drill and screw down
or will professional installation and backing be required?

Robert -
Check with the factory to see if they put plywood under the floor in that area. There's a good chance that they did, if your seeing factory mounted chairs there. Some people have had good luck in using their website for service info, some haven't. Best is probably to call and ask for the service or customer help area. One other source may be a local dealer, who may have the wood diagrams. Each model has a wood diagram for reference.
If it does have wood, one of the best way to keep any water from penetrating the wood and foam area is to drill a hole quite a bit larger and deeper then needed, pour an epoxy into the hole (check the West system), let harden and then drill just into the new epoxy plug. That way, no water can get past the threads into the core.
West has some pamphlets describing this procedure.
