Thomas: I had previously thought that Mills canvas was last designed for the 1991 21 & 23 Walkarounds, but recently I heard of someone that bought Mills canvas for a 1994 21' Outrage. I think for a few years it was on & off again with Boston Whaler as they went through all of the ownership changes in the 90's. Maybe an email to Mills could answer the question for you. I'd guess '94 or '95. |

Thanks for the information Larry. From what Mills tells me BW still orders their canvas for both new and older boats per a direct customer/dealer request. It appears your probably correct,'95 might be the year (Leslie the Mills' BW specialist was a little vague on the year their deal ended with BW), last accessory catalog I have with it is '93 and Mills was still making it. My 95 Dauntless 17 came with Mills Bimini top and a Mills boat cover. So they still used Mills in 95.What is a good waterproof? I remember seeing some suggestions before...I've used Starbrite from West Marine in past and it works ok. Time to do it again and would try another type from recommendations... Does Mills sell to the public or do you need to buy directly from a Whaler dealer? I will need a new cover in a few years and would get a Mills again, fits nicely. |

Mark: I have bought many canvas items directly shipped from Mills. They indeed do make superior canvas for boats, especially since it's specifically designed for Whalers in cooperation with the factory designers. A Mills canvas system will greatly enhance the all-weather capability of your Whaler, and once installed, you will wonder how you got along without it. I would not own a Boston Whaler without my Mills canvas, period! They used to recommend a silicon waterproofer called "Aqua-Tite", by Marchem Coated Fabrics, Inc, in New Haven MO 314-237-4444. Marchem will not sell directly, but can probably refer you to a distributor who will. I have used it and it is great stuff. My local Aqua-Tite wholesaler went out of business, so lately I have been buying the Starbrite product in gallon sizes, and it seems to work also. |
