I have a round metal disk attached to the starboard transom, well under the waterline that has a wire leading to it. The routing of the wire leads me to beleive that this device was factory installed. The wire has corroded and broken off at the crimp to the disk. Question: What is this for? Does the wire need to be hooked up? I'm guessing its a grounding or corrosion protection device of some kind. Any info would be appreciated!

I don't know how important it is, I'm sure someone will let us know....but it is a ground wire for the fuel tank, maybe a anti-static electricty ground. My wire was broken at the brass screw, a new end and a dab of 5200 adhesive solved the problem. Good luck.

That makes me wonder: do I need to ground my aluminum tank? It's going under the console in a more or less permanent installation. I had no intention of grounding anything other than the electronics/lights etc. to the negative pole of the battery/batteries. Trying to figure out the electrical system is (so far) the hardest part of resurrecting my old nauset.
