Can anybody recommend a good way to clean and polish old (30 year) bow and side rails other than removing, dismantling and polishing them with compound on a bench mounted buffer. This works but it is a pain!!!

Try some stuff called "semichrome". It will make your stainless look new.

It's "Simichrome", not "Semichrome". You
can get it in most any auto parts store.
Good stuff.

BEFORE YOU WEAR OUT YOUR ELBOW WITH ABRASIVE CLEANERS, TRY OXILIC ACID IN THE FORM OF " BARKEEPERS FRIEND" OR OTHER OVER THE COUNTER CLEANERS. THIS CAN BE FOUND IN YOUR LOCAL GROCERY STORE NEXT TO THE "COMET" AND "AJAX" AND WILL SHINE S/S FASTER THAN YOUR ELBOW WILL ALLOW.

I agree with Ger. Flitz is awesome. Put it on with paper towels and rub till its tarnish free.

Well my two cents --- I hate to polish and do windows toooo --- heh heh --- something like BartKeepers Friend is nice for a quick shine (rather be sitting watching a bartender use it than me!!!) but Flitz will give you a longer lasting deeper shine and remove any slight corrosion, also great on aluminum. Just remember to wax the metal after polishing will last quit a long time.

We us Never Dull. My wife uses it on the eating utensils and I use it on the bow rails. Works like a champ an is available at Home Depot.

My vote is on the Flitz,I tried it on the
bow rail and prop.Next time I'll try What
BigZ said and follow it up with a good
polish.
