Recently purchased Montauk for use on Lake Michigan for family and fishing. Does anyone have plans or suggestions for stern seat besides paying an astonomical cost to Whaler dealer.

Larry,

My Montauk came with a "stern seat" that the previous owner had made from a large teak swim platform. It is supported on the sides by sitting on the lips on the edges of the Montauk and in the back by resting on the motor well. There are snaps underneath that allow 2 large boat cushions to be attached The other half on the snaps are on the cushions' straps.

There is no back support but that also makes it easier to step onto it when boarding from the swim platform I added on the port transom. This "seat" also makes a nice casting platform.

I have seen other Montauks with custom rear seats that look like this bench with backrest and storage underneath http://www.boatus-store.com/MC_Online/Browse.asp?ShowItem=18774. I've also wondered if you couldn't use a double-wide deck chair like this http://www.boatus-store.com/MC_Online/Browse.asp?ShowItem=18881.

Good luck,
Barry
