Must purchase new control cables for my 1979 Newport with Morse MT-2 Control. The ones which I took out are Teleflex 3300 Universal I think. Also how do you twist them so as not to touch the boat.. Any Thoughts ??

Sam,

I understand the Morse red jacket supreme cables are very good and allow as little as a 4" bend radius.

The only headache switching from Teleflex is the additional cost of new engine connector adapters, if you stick with Teleflex can use the existing set up.

The cable end fittings are identical between Morse vs Teleflex. they are a universal cable, therefore T'flex adapters will work on Morse cables and vice versa.

Jeff thanks for the information because I always thought that you needed to use Morse cables with 10-32 SAE threaded ends to replace Morse and the Teleflex Univeral 10-32 UNF threaded ends to replace Teleflex without purchasing adapters to go from one to the other --- Tom

Different teleflex systems use different
cables. Maybe one of these is the same
as Morse.

control cables are universal from manufacturer to manufacturer. They are designed to be replacements for existing controls and designed to Mercury or OMC design criteria (for KM and OS style cables). Therefore a teleflex cable will fit a Morse control as long as it is the same style that you are replacing. There is differences in the internal construction of the differing cables.

Steering cables are typically designed so a Morse fits a Morse and a T'flex fits a T'flex the only exception to this is Morse does make a universal cable with the necessary adapters to fit anyones rotary steering system.

Different teleflex systems use different
cables. Specifically, the current rotary
helms use the QC II cable. The rack and
pinion helms use a different cable (SSC124xx).

Morse has a steering cable called the URC cable it can be used on the quick disconnect T'flex systems also. So if you're broken down and the only thing available is the URC cable, it will work. keep in mind the only thing that will work on Morse systems is Morse cables.
