I'm looking for a Whaler Drive for a 1986 Revenge. Anyone got any ideas?

I assume you already have the Revenge. I believe that finding a "detached" Whaler Drive unit (fiberglass construction, factory installed) will be almost impossible. But I could recommed an after-market transom bracket installation, even if you have the notched outboard transom model. It will cost between $2000-$3000, plus some engine re-rigging, but will greatly add to the overall performance and handling of the boat.

Thanks for the recommendation. Yes, I already have the Revenge, and I think you're right about the impossibility of finding a detached Whaler Drive. I'm planning to repower the boat anyway, and I wanted to try to get the quieter, drier and smoother ride that the Whaler Drive provides. How would you compare the after-market bracket with the WD for these qualities?

Jim --- Larry I'm sure will come back and explain the difference he did a lot of research on "brackets"

I might recommend you look into a 10" setback hydraulic jacket plate --- will give you a broader range of trim and put the motor back far enough to be in "clean" water http://www.bobsmachine.com/index.htm this is one shop I found with the most set back and movement in their bracket ---

Just an alternative thought and less costly -----Tom

Also, Springfield Marine makes a one piece 12" setback transom jack (About $325 at Cabelas), in 1/2" silver anodized alumium, but it is not hydraulically operated. I have twin outboards mounted on Springfield units on my 18 Outrage and highly recommend any setback transom bracket on a boat such as a 22 Revenge/Outrage. Get as much setback as you can.

jima: Further to the above, regarding an Armstrong bracket, see Jim's article on my 25 Outrage w/Armstrong bracket in the Rendezvous section, Day three.
