I am trying to find a lens replacement for my bowlight, the green half has faded into a cloudy white color. I have been to my local BW dealer and apparently BW does not keep anything over five years old in stock (according to him). He told me to try green fingernail polish but to no avail... it was hard to see. Any comments would be useful! FYI it is a 1981 Montauk 17'

I could be wrong but don't think so -- that bow light is still made for BW by Perko and I see no reason a new lens can't be ordered for it --- beat on your dealer a little more -- yikes green finger nail polish heh heh how crude -- Tom |

Light update.... well after numerous calls and emails I got some information I will post here. BW wrote: I'm afraid the older style bow light lens is no longer available...sorry. From what I understand the USCG changed the specs. in 1986, evidently the older style light did not conform to the degree of range required for the new CG specs. so the manufacturer (Perko) could no longer produce lights (or lenses) of the old size. A larger style light has been used since then (part #1035203), it conforms to the newer CG specs and will bolt right on the old style bow chock set-up. Please call 1-800-Whaler-9 or check the dealer locator on the Whaler website for the location of your nearest Dealer (by zip code) for parts pricing and availability (sorry, no factory direct). The price for the new light was $75.63 which seems a little to cheap for the whole bow chock replacement. When I asked if they had a pic. they said no they didn't.
Here is where it gets better.... Perko wrote: Mr. Dabney, Some one in our office reconiveed the light and says it is a Wilcox Crittenden made light. Can try contacting them at (860) 447-1077 but they say that the light is no longer made and Boston Whaler does have a replacement light that will replace the unit you have. Thanks, Perko I have taken digital pictures and sent them to all parties..... I really do not want to buy a newer part at this point, but I will not give up fellas! James -- dazed and confused.

The new light is BW p/n 1035203, "Light, Bow", and is the light only (frame, lens, socket, a bit of wire, and maybe the bulb) and is about $75. It's a Perko part, made custom for BW and a couple of other builders (so sez Perko).BW said they didn't have a picture???? I got the p/n off their drawings from the whalerparts website. I tried to get Perko to sell me the light and chock but they said they only sell to B/W retailers and anyone interested would need to go through them. That means a cost of $67 via my dealer for the light alone and $135 for the complete cholk.Ron |

Hey Ron your up early --- guess that's not to bad for just the light --- and appears if you need just the lens from this thread's post you got to get a whole new light --- dumb but them's the breaks --- Z |

I bought a round Perko bow light from my local marine store ($20 or so), saw the same thing at West Marine and it fit perfectly. It's on my 1980 Montauk's original bow light piece with bollards - I also bought two new bollards from Surfside 3 for about $55 total. |

Does that round Perko have a cast or stamped frame? The Perkos I've seen in that price range have a stamped frame that isn't going to hold up to anchor lines and chains.Chuck Tribolet |
