can anyone explain how to install horizonial rod holders in a 15' whaler sport w/side mount steering, without it looking out of place? i have put so much work on the boat that i didnt want to butcher it.normally i can make do with what i have. but. have you ever heard your favorite graphite rod which they no longer make break under your feet?.ill bet its easier to elect a president than to accomplish this.thanks..... rodless in Mobile

You could use well nuts. Marine grade will have brass inserts. You will have some oversize holes to fill if you do take of the the rod holders. Look in the hardware section of West Marine or Boat-US store if there is one near you.

My mid-80's BW options catalog shows a pretty cool looking lockable rod storage box that mounts up on the aft side rails and holds two rods w/reels. There's a second piece on the forward portion of the bow rail that looks like a pair of hoops to receive the rod tips. All is made from teak or mahog. It's advertised as for the Montauk, but seems a 15' with the high forward rail (looks like the standard Montauk bow railing)should be able to accomodate it as well. Good luck finding one as I've never come face to face with one.

Hey David, is that you? If so, how's the mahogany holding up? You were one of my favorite customers in the early days last year! ---Dennis

If you could get by with vertical holders, the Perko SS type that clamp on to a rail work well for me on my 15...

dennis do you have any drawings or pictures?if so please e mail along with approximate pricing.Reid if you come across a used one please let me know.i already have the perko railing mount holders as well as four vertical rod holders mounted on front of my console.but,it seems more like a fencing match than a fishing trip.it never fails that i will always hit a rod in the vertical holders as i cast.and i have a 18 gal.fuel tank mounted under the entire width of the rear seat.so the only place i can figure they can be horizonaly mounted is on the rail..thanks...........matt

Dennis, although we spoke on the telephone some about a year ago, we never did any business, so another Dave must be the guy. Your work, as seen on this site, is really fine! Glad to see you've got it working.

Matt, I'll keep an eye out.

I really would like some pics of the ones you mount on aft side rails for the 17 foot model. JimU.
