Where is the thwart seat mounted on your 15-Sport?

There were two styles: one mounted on the molded lip of the liner; the other mounted on top of the wooden side "risers".

If you have the lower style, there is not much room. If you have the slightly higher seat mounting, there is a plastic molded tank in the Tempo catalogue that will fit under it. I don't have the model number handy but it is a 12-gallon tank and it is about 9-inches high.

Further to Jim's suggestion, Tempo actually worked with Whaler and designed this series of 3 plastic tanks to fit under the seats of the 13, 15 & 17' Sport/Super Sport models. They are all about 43" long, very low, and can be semi-permanantly mounted with their teak block kit. The filler is always exposed behind the seat for access without moving. They come in 12, 14 & 17 gallon capacities, with height being the variable. I have seen a 17 gallon model in a 15 Whaler. About $100 each, check a Marine catalog for exact sizes.
In my estimation this is the best setup for a sport model Whaler fuel tank. Be sure to
not to mount it too far forward and lose your
"heel" space under the seat.

Pate Plastics also makes an excellent custom underseat fiberglass model, but twice the price. Haven't seen any metal ones of this style.

Would strongly recommend the Pate tank for your 15'. I had an 86 15' SS which I purchased new and I installed this fiberglass 12 gal tank under the seat.

Had it 13 years without a problem, and it still looked new (the tank & boat) when I
sold it two yrs ago.

Yes, it's expensive (cost me $179 in 1986)
but it's kinda like our Whalers, you get what you pay for........

Anyway Pates number in Miami is 305-754-0896,
(I bought a new Montauk in 98 and yep, I put a Pate 24 gal tank under my seat)

Good luck,

Moeller Plastics also makes tanks to fit under Whaler seats and you can use the Tempo strap kit to hold it down? About the same price as Tempo. Regards-Jack Graner.

i have had a moeller 18 gal. tank under the seat of my 15 for two years.my battery fits next to it under the seat as well.it seems the reason i bought the moeller over the tempo was that the moeller has four aluminum tabs holding it down.the strap type has its place but i have rassled with battery boxes tooo, long and i wanted no part of that.either way you can't go wrong.
