I've got a '71 Sakonnet with the bow platform. Can anyone tell me what the original wood was and whether or not it was painted white or varnished? Thanks in advance.

I too have a bow platform in my 1964 Sakonnet and it is painted white. I was told by the previous (also original) owner that the platform came painted white. I have been wondering exactly what type of wood it is as well. I'd appreciate hearing what type of wood it is if anyone knows.

I built a factory duplicate bow platform for my '71 Nauset, but instead of the factory white, I built it out of teak. Kept it oiled, and it was a beautiful addition to the boat. Unfortunately, I gave away the drawings I had made when I sold the boat.

I have a 1968 Naucet and the OEM deck is painted white and is straight fir. Getting dinged up a bit and I convinced my father-in-law to build me a replacement. He is going with teak, I will post later how it works out.
