the teak on the gunwales is shot (outrage 25). How difficult is it to replace? On the surface, it looks fairly easy, but I am not sure.

It shouldn't be too difficult. If you are comfortable working with wood, it's easy. Remove the existing wood. Try to keep it as intact as possible. This is your pattern for the replacement. The hardest part is finding the source to buy your new teak wood. I'm lucky, we have numerable sources where I live, but I understand that's not the case everywhere. If your area is shy on supplies, obtain a copy of WoodenBoat Magazine. In the back, in the classified ads, there are many suppliers of all sorts of woods. Once obtained, it's a matter of planning the wood to the correct thickness, camphering the edges and installing. If you find yourself getting stuck in the process, I know you'll find all the help and probably photos right here to get you through. I have not replaced mine, but removed them for a total refinish from the neglect of the previous owner. Good luck!
