Quite awhile ago, somebody asked me to look for an article that was printed in a newsletter. That article was about replacing the center console in a Montauk style whaler with a new fiberglass console from a pontoon boat. Well, I finally found the article and I have made an electronic copy of it. If anyone is interested, I will gladly email it to you.

I wouldn`t put a Pontoon Console on a Montauk, but some people go for function, over original equipment. And I believe the Montauk console is alot more expensive than the Pontoon console. I am a big original equipment nut, so I would have to fork out the big dough! Regards-Jack Graner.

When I first heard about a pontoon boat console in a Whaler, I too laughed out loud. When I saw the pictures, I was amazed at how good it actually looked. The console this guy used is laid out to come down exactly over the wood inserts in the Whaler floor. I think the console is fiberglass and unless I knew better, it would almost look factory.

I received this link from a guy who makes consoles that will fit the whaler. He has a picture on his site of a console mounted in what appears to be an older whaler.

Got mos o' one ear left, ugly as sin but it'll whup the crap outta any otha' dog aroun. Ah luvs dat crazy dog! Shoot, why don one o' you otha mix breed luvers take a pontoony boat and shuv a ole whaler hull right up its backside. You know, right up da middle. Make you a unsinkable TRI-hull outta da two of em? Mebbe you'll like THAT! Heck, why stop at da console when ya can dress up da hole ting real good?

I bought an '80 17' with wood sit down console that needed to be replaced. I bought a new Whaler Montauk center console from the factory through a dealer. About $1800 includes steering, windshield, light switches, grab rails, beverage holders, doors with keys, fire extinguisher space, and hold down brackets. Have not yet installed, but think it will be nice. You know, right scale, good quality, and all the things you get a whaler for in the first place. Also, if I sell sometime, this will be a plus, something else may not be.
