I've got a 16 foot hull with no rails. I was offshore alone recently, and felt uncomfortable with the low sides. I kept my kill switch lanyard on while trolling. The body of a very experienced boater in my area was recently found adrift offshore. His unoccupied boat had been found running the day before.
How would I add rails to a boat that never had them? The hardware has to withstand a lot of force at the mounting point.

Your hull, assuming it's still reasonably original in condition, has wood pads in all the right places for installation of BW's side and bow rail kits. See the hull wood locating drawing in the reference section, and see OEM section for rail supplier. You can also see what these rails look like in many of the photos on this site. Expect to spend about $1000 for both side and bow rails.
