I throw this one out for what it's worth:
My center console (standard classic model) had four substantial holes on the top left side (horizontal surface). I considered several ways of repair, including a piece of Corian I have, or teak, as a completely new cover for the whole thing. Then I thought some sort of storage bin might be handy. There just isn't any place to put your car keys, money, glasses, phone etc. when under way.
Research showed that the water-tight access doors available would be too big to fit. Too bad 'cuz they have appropriate bins available to mate up.
Then, during a Genuine Draft storm front it hit me like a bolt: An 8" Beckson water-tight deck plate, at about $9.00. The hardware store supplied a Rubbermaid container that mated the plate flange perfectly...$1.99. Cut the hole, bed and mount the plate; 5200 around the flange and mount the container from below...tah dah! Inexpensive, looks proper, provides protected storage for valuables. As a bonus, it does not interfere with or hang below the opening of the side door.

LBD. I want to see pictures also if you have the time. I can't completely envision it in my mind. I have a smallish watertight box on siliconed on top but might like a more flush method I think you're referring to.

Sending them directly to you guys doesn't burden JimH.
