I plan to install a fix mount VHF and wonder what antena would be best for my 15' GLS. I dont want anything too big and dumb looking. I saw a small Shakespeare Antena with a booster, and was thinking I could add a rail mount to avoid as much drilling as possible.

I went thru the same quandry for my 16 Nauset. I tow a lot being in the USCG Auxiliary and wanted to put on a folding top. I was worried about the side mount being hit when I tow. I ended up with the SS rail mount form Boaters world as it looked more durable than the nylon one. I have used it for a couple of months and like it so far. I tried it on both starboard and port side rail and it works out best on port side. I did have to get an extension for ht cable since the 8 ft antenna only came with a 15 ft cable which was too short to reach my console. I ran the cable along the port rail and down thru the tunnel to the console. You may be able to mount it on the starboard side if that's where your console, wheel, controls are located.

The length of the cable varies. The
Shakespere Galaxy's have a 20' cable. With
a ratchet rail mount they will fold down and
strap to the rail for trailering.
But on a 15' GLS, a 15' cable MIGHT be

I read your recommendation about the cable length in one of your previous posts (or maybe on your website). I bought the antenna you recommended and installed it on my montauk on Saturday. Thanks for the tip!!!
