I would like to get a t-top for my 17' Newport, but read somewhere that Whaler doesn't recommend t-tops for anything under 18'. Also, all the tops I've seen seem to be designed for center consoles only, and the Newport has a side console. Any advice?

The Newport model isn't heavy enough to support a T-top. Also, the wood underneath is only 1/2", with no backing plates, and would pull out. Best bet is a bimini.
