I am restoring a 68 Nauset. Putting the the steering back together and need to know orientation of teleflex unit. Does the cable come up of the unit on the port or starboard side. That will tell be how to bolt in on. Also does the cable come off the lower or upper nut? I guess I could just try it, but I thought you folks would know the answer faster than I can redo it.
Thanks in advance.

I just finished a rehab of a 30 + year old Nauset and had to run it so the cable ends were pointed to the port so they would not be in the way of the contorls mopunted on the starboard side of the dash on the console. I have photos.

The teleflex unit I have can be mounted with the cables coming from the right or the left and the cable entering either in the top or bottom opening.

I just finished rigging my home built factory spec Nausett console and was able to first figure out where I wanted the instruments and then install the teleflex unit according to that placement. It is now set up opposite to the way it came from the dealer rigged for Super Sport seating. I don't have the original Telefex instructions for the unit, but it sure looks to me that it was designed for this type of flexibility of installation.

You may want to check with Teleflex directly on Carl's point. This is not the informaton that they are providing in the directions and info sheets for their newer NFB models.

It is true that the orientation of the unit can be such that that the exit / entrance holes can be pointed either starboard or port. Per Teleflex guidance, at least for NFB systems, the cables should not go to either hole. Dealing with motor torque and its impact on the steering of the boat is such that Teleflex recommends that assuming the holes face starboard, the cable should enter the upper hole. If the unit is spun 180 degree and the holes face port, then it is the lower hole that should receive the cable.

If you are re-installing the original unit, it might be worth it speaking to teleflex as to whether entry hole matters.

Sorry. To answer your original question, Teleflex recemmends them mounted facing starboard, but a discussion with their technical people revealed flexibility as long as the cable is inserted in the same hole.
