I was in need of a steering bracket and a remote throttle for my 1995 Mercury 25hp outboard on my 13' clasic. I took my boat and motor with me to Ed’s Marine to be sure to get the correct parts. I worked with “Dave” at the parts counter. We walked out to the boat so he could see what I needed. He directed me to the steering bracket parts on the display floor and he went to the back to get the remote throttle. I purchased the three steering components and the remote throttle with my VISA. When I arrived home 1 hour later and opened the remote throttle, I discovered that it was made for an electric start motor (I have a manual start motor). I called Ed’s Marine parts and talked to another person about the mix up. They said that Mercury makes a remote throttle with out the electrical components that sells for $180.00. I asked if they would order the correct one and credit my VISA the difference ($70.00). They would not. They would only allow me store credit for the $70.00. I then asked to speak to Dave. We discussed the fact that I had been sold the wrong part but this did not make any difference to them. When I requested to speak to the manager Dave said he was the manager. When I requested the owners name and contact number I was told that the owner did not speak to customers.

If anyone else has a story about Ed's Marine I would like to here it. It's amazing the number of people around Richmond, even Va. that have had similar experiences at Ed's Marine.

Mail the part back. Contact Visa and they will send you a form to contest the charge and credit the amount back to you. That's all you have to do. Screw Ed's!

Thanks for the advise Dan. I am in contact with my card provider and I am contesting the charge.

David13, I'm from Richmond too, though I'm living in FL now, and my dad bought an outboard from them a year or two ago, and has had nonstop headaches since. He got a good price on it, but he'd gladly go back and pay more in exchange for never having had to deal with those guys. My sympathies.
