i RECENTLY PURCHASED A EARLY 70'S 21' OUTRAGE. tHE UNDEWRDECK STORAGE IN THE BOW OF THE BOAT WILL NOT DRAIN. iT HAS A DRAIN HOLE. I'M GUESSING IT IS CLOGGED. I CAN NOT FIGURE OUT WHERE IT DRAINS TO. I HAVE TRIED A PLUMBERS SNAKE WITH OUT SUCCESS. DOES ANYBODY KNOW?

In my 1972 21 outrage, that locker drains all the way in the stern. there is a hole in the floor near the little sump where the
drain plug is. perhaps compressed air can clear it

The hole is what I can not find. Howe large of a hole am I looking for. Is it attached to a pipe or do you think it drains into a cavity in the stern. i have tried a plumbers snake and can hear it in the stern. Maybe on my hull the hole was never installed

the drain on my '73 is direct through the hull, up forward.

if you can hear the snake at the stern, have you checked the rear bilge? it's accessable by taking the large rear storage bin out or removing the access plate in the middle of the splash well.

another thought is that it drains into the wiring/steering tunnel, and your hearing the end of the snake hit the back of the bilge, where it opens up. thats another area to check, right where the wiring and steering cable becomes exposed in the tunnel.

it does not make sense from an engineering standpoint to run a small drain line all the way from the forward storage locker to the rear bilge, but it's whalerengineering for you.

The drain is in the bilge area a little starboard of centerline. It is in the bottom of the hull, not on the side of the bilge area.It is here that it is probably clogged. Fill the ice chest (that's what it is supposed to be instead of storage) about half full of water, then clean out the rear drain with a hose, this should unplug the drain with the pressure of the water in the ice chest. Worked on mine. I would avoid using a snake. Good luck. JC

I have a 1978 19 Outrage lo-profile. I have a deck drain that is plugged, and I too cannot figure out where it drains to. Let me describe its location: (starting from the bow), there is the anchor locker (with a drain through the hull to the water), then a step down to the main deck. At the base of the step down, there is a small drainage canal that goes from port to starboard (the canal gets deeper as it approaches the starboard side); at the starboard side of the canal is a small (maybe 1/2 inch) drainage hole. That hole is plugged. High pressure water does NOT unplug it. There is no obvious drainage location for this drain hole. Any ideas where it drains to? Thanks!

Tim, it drains into the sump (aft stbd) where the vertical through-hull plug is located... look again! I've had four 19's and all had drains that became clogged... my current 19 lo-pro project (a 1973) has no drain and for that I'm thankful.. Happy Whalin'.. clark... The Old Man and the Sea
