I live in N.O. I believe I may have seen your boat around the lake. I have been keeping mine down at my camp in Proctor's Landing(Shell Beach). Do you fish? If so where at? Just curious as I read here that yours was @ SYC. I use to take sailing there as a kid! Is you Whaler in a slip? Doun in Shell Beacl there are plenty of classic ORs. Tons of them 18-25. All of them are lift kept with straps. I am trying to have someone build me a cradle for mine, but they all say down there it does not matter and strapping it is ok????? WHat is your opinion?

DDG, you may have seen me in Lake Pontchartrain or in the Barataria Bay area. I keep mine in the marina at Myrtle Grove. This is the area I fish mostly. I do occassionly travel to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to fish the Louisiana Marsh and Florida panhandle for some offshore trolling. Otherwise, I'm playing around the lake or chasing kids (big and small) around the bouys. Glad to see you join the site.
p.s. I've spent a considerable amount of time over the years fishing out of Shell Beach. One of my oldest friends has a camp two minutes from Blackie Campos.

DDG, Sorry, I forgot to answer your hoist question! Since whalers are designed to have all of the weight brought to the keel, I would be leery of a pure strap set-up. If you could find someone that could fashion an aluminum cradle that sits the boat directly on the keel and flared side "boards" that simply support lateral movement, you would probably be better off. Of course, this is a more expensive option. In our area though, there are thousands of ship fitters that are artisans with aluminum welding. I'll bet you can find someone to construct one for under $500.00. You would have to design it, or get someone to do it for you, but I sure you could get it done. Check around the Belle Chasse and Harvey Canal areas.
