Does anyone know of a trolling motor mount available for a 13 sport that can be clamped to the hull? With the cable and pully steering I don't think it's wise to use a helm mounted trolling motor. Thanks, Jay

Buy a trolling motor that has the clamps and steers like an outboard. Clamp it to the transom on the port side I believe. Newer ones(tan) have an indentation where it goes. Does not make a big dif cause it has no torque per say and is not going to screw itself off. Minnikota makes them for like $100. Plenty to push a 13.

My mistake on trolling motor mount. I should have said transom mount instead of helm mount. Jay

Bigshot, I think with the transom mount unit it may interfere with the cable steering. Jay

Nah! you can adjust the height of the head unit to clear and I doubt those clamps stick out that far. You can also mount that one to the bow I believe. Then again what the hell do I know. Somebody here must have experience. I thought you meant the one that attaches to the lower unit with extra weight etc. Sorry!

Bigshot, part of my poblem also deals with weight. I have a 1990 40HP erude, a battery,a 12 gal tank, and I go about 225, all behind the helm. I'm worried if I put a trolling motor with another battery back there I may sink a Whaler.

I have been looking for a trolling motor for my 67 13 BW also and hoped this topic came up...a fairly inexpensive transom mount unit ($150-200)30-40 thrust should do the job. The motor is an Evinrude and has cable steering...I wouldnt expect there to be a problem with placement? Before I buy...can anyone clear this up...

I am running a 52# thrust bow mount on my Montauk and it is plenty. I would think that something in the 30 to 40 # range would work fine. The motors don't weigh much but when you add a good GP27 deep cycle to power it the pounds start to add up.

On the montauk, did you install a scissors type bow mount motor, or fabricate a bracket for a stern mount? What kind of motor?

Samars. I have just tried to install the Minkota Endura transom mount 34# thrust to my 1972 13 sport. The mount for the trolling motor did not work with the cable steering system. I am going to try the old 30# Endura and if that doesn't work I will try to make a mount for the bow. Regards, Jay

I used a Motorguide 552V Magnum+ with tiller handle steering. It is the sissor mount with the addition of the Motorguide removable system.

I have a Minn Kota Enduro 44 mounted on the stern, trolling bracket, and a Minn Kota Maxum bow mount on my Dauntless 14. Battery is located inside the CC. Electrics are really nice.

Find the right size, best place for battery mount and you will enjoy it very much.

Samars , I tried a Motorguide 36# on the transom with a modified teak peice to hold the bracket higher . It seemed like it would work, however when I tightened the nuts I cracked the inside transom gelcoat. I am going to make a custom mount for the bow out of stainless that mounts to the bow using U bolts so I don't have to go through the hull . Regards, Jay

Thanks Jay...if you have pictures of the modification...can you forward them to me. I also do not want to screw or drill into the bow....
