getting ready to tackle the wood on the outrage 18 we are restoring. The wood on the 18's was it ussually teak or did they use both teak and mahogany? Thanks for any help. Ihave read the different posts on refinishing just not clear on which wood I am dealing with

dozerwolf,

You are dealing with teak with one, or maybe, two possible exceptions.

The under gunwale rod racks are mad of varnished mahogany plywood.

If you have a factory igloo cooler with mounting cleats then the cleats are varnished mahogany as well.

Dozerwolf...i just redid all the teak trim on my 85 Outrage...did st last in 6.99....used UV varnish then...was beautiful for about a year and a half then got foggy looking. Cousle weekends ago i took off all chrome and stainless things...sanded entirely....and used Tung oil this time as recommended from a fellow that has used Tung oil for many years..and his has looked great the whole time! My wood now looks FANTASTSiC! While i was at it...decided to buff out hull sides and all and rewaxed too. Wow! She really looks great now. Amazing what 5 hours and about $5 can do for cosmetics. Donst really want to sell her now. Best...Mav in South Carolina
