Bought a 1971 21 Outrage with the ribbed sides. Repowered with a 200 Merc EFI. Boat is all original except seat which is now a leaning post (which I prefer) and the front hatch cover. I have the teak but would like to build it to at least look like the original. Is this the same hatch as a 17 Montauk? Any help would be appreciated.

Mullet: The design the the front hatch cover is not all that unlike that of the console. Kind of a teak & holly affair.

If I were you, I would go to Cetacea (cannot remember the page number) and there is one or two mint dump trucks that show the interior layout including the look of the front hatch cover. Given the vintage of that special boat, I would endeavor to replace it to look the same.

One way would be to take 1/2 inch marine plywood and veneer it with 1/4 D x 2" W strips of teak (epoxy on the veneer). Leave 1/8" gaps between the boards and fill them with deck caulk and sand.
