I just purchased a 1980 22' Outrage and the steering wheel is parallel to the flat top of the console. I would like for it to have more of an angle. Any economical suggestions?

The steering is probably Teleflex. They offer several different wedges (bezels) to accomplish this. You could also change to a tilt helm, much like you probably have in your vehicle, from Teleflex.

Dick is right on the money. Just did it. Bought a 20 degree tilt wedge, and made teak base for the whole affair. Check the age of your system: if its a Sy-Ten, then you should replace the whole thing.

I, for one, like steering with the axis of the steering wheel near vertical. Is that how your wheel is now?

I would seriuosly consider a Telefex tilt steering unit. This is standard on my Dauntless 14 and I thought it was just a gimmick. But, as it turns out I love having it. The steering wheel can be tilted up when I use the seat back a leaning post or dwn when I am just cruising along. Plus it is very handy to be able to tilt it up and give more clearance around the console when needed.

cinco de whaler,

If your helm is the old Teleflex "Big-T" helm, and is made up of two wedge shaped (in cross section) bezels, you can reverse the top piece so the two of them are canting in the same direction instead of canceling each other out. This will give your wheel a 20 tilt.

jimh, My steering wheel is horizontal and is very difficult to stear while using the leaning post.
