I would like to get others thoughts on using a Keel Guard on their boat. Will this decrease the value of the boat? What about instilation. I know there is pros and cons, but I need to fix a minor problem with the Keel on my Montauk. The front rooler has rubed the gelcoat down to the fiberglass. Will a keel guard help?

Yup! And they are self sticking. Should not detract from the boat.

Check out . These units are alot thicker than the catalog versions of keel protectors.

The first thing you should do is seal the keel. You do not want bare fiberglass submerged for any period of time, it readily absorbs water and will definately cause problems if ignored. Grind and clean the area and either apply new gel coat, or use an epoxy like marine tex, then seal with a protective paint.
