OK....before I install my fish finder/depth gauge and reading the past forums on installation to the transom....is there a test to determine and make sure the unit operates properly...like in a pool? help is always appreciated. I don't want install it and then find out it does not work...

If it's new it should work. If you really want to test it before you thread the cable thru the tunnel, temporarily screw it to a long, narrow piece of plywood (or regular wood) and C-clamp it to the transom. Take the boat to the lake and try it out.Because of turbulance etc involved with the plywood, this would work best when the boat is stopped. All you want to know is whether it works or not.

The firmware in most modern fishfinders
is smart enough to detect a dead transducer
and complain about. And there will probably
be a brief message as the FF boots up that
says something like "transducer connected".

You could test in a pool, but I wouldn't
bother. Heck you could probably test it
in a 5 gal pickle barrel.

It probably won't work in air.
