i have a 1986 montauk whaler. it came with two 12 gallon tempo gas cans that fit under the seat. one can has gone bad. tempo now manufactures a plastic can but the cap is to high. it will not fit under the seat. where can i get another gas can? or what would you suggest as a replacement for this system.

I run a Tempo 28 gal tank under the seat in my Montauk. You can mount it slightly aft so the fuel cap clears the seat, or as I do, slide it aft for filling and then back.
Happy to email you a pic if you like, let me know.

Try removing the tank mats. Tempos fit under my seat after I pulled out the factory mats. I ended up putting in some basic rubber "welcome" mats and the tanks slide in and out with a hair to spare. The rubber mats also provide you a static eletricity barrier between the poly tanks and the glass deck. Not exactly a ground, but at least an insulator.

There is a lawn tractor cap, vented, that fits the tempo tanks and is only about 3/4" tall. It allowed my Tempo 28 gallon to slide under the seat. I still have to slide her aft to fill, but you can't have everything.

I have also read, today, of a new low profile cap offered by Tempo. You might check that out. BTW, I found the tractor cap at Wal-Mart for undwer $10.
