I have a late 80's 13' Sport Whaler.
The previous owner really fudged up the
wiring under the bow light, and now I'm
stuck with having to cut out a section of
Fiberglass to get to whats left of the wires,
patch them with some new wire and patch the
fiberglass. This has turned into a serious
ordeal. Do any of you guys have a diagram of
how the wires run inside the hull? What is
the professional way to change that wire,
there is ZERO slack on it, so I can't figure
out how to "re-thread" it.

I guess most of all I'd just like to hear
about other peoples experiences with this
subject, and a Wiring Diagram.

Thanks,

root.

The wires are run down the side of the boat under the starboard rubrail.

Personally I would leave the old wires there and rewire 2 new ones up the rubrail. You can drill a small hole under the bow to insert them if they were to be exposed. Will look factory and no fiberglass work. Forget the old stuff.

root,

Don't cut any fiberglass! If your boat is from the late eighties (or any thing after the early 70's, for that matter) the wires do not go through the hull.

As Dick points out, they are led under the rub rail insert. Simply peel the black insert out of the receiver to the bow on the Starboard side and you will see the wire. Pull it out and replace it with new. This wire goes from the terminal block in the stern near the stern light mount to the bow penetrating the hull only at those two places. No need to cut, drill or dig, just poke the new wire through the old holes and you will be on your way in no time.

Thanks everyone!

I wish I hadn't cut as much fiberglass as I
allready have!!! (It's really only 2 square
inches infront of the Bowlight, but a little
deep too).

Anyway, I'm going to take off the rub rail,
but I looked under a strip of the rail and
didn't see any sign of wires running down
the starboard side. I'm going to investigate
further after work and I will post more.

Thanks,

root.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH RECENTLY PURCHASED 13 SPORT 1986.I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE A SHORT PEICE OF WIRE STICKING THRU THE REAR HOLE. SO I JUST LENGTHENED THE WIRES. NOW YOU QUESTION HAS ANSWERED A QUESTION FOR ME I THOUGHT THERE WAS A FUSE BOX FOR THE LIGHTS SOMEONE SAID THERE WAS A TERMINAL BLOCK.
