My yamaha 150 is stuck in the down position.
I can hear the motor work, but no movement.

What could this be?? It happened yesterday, I was washing off the boat and went to tilt the motor up, and nothing, the motor sound good but hearing it I can hear there is no resistance to it.

Any thoughts.

I have an '87 70hp Yamaha with similar symptoms. I've been told that it needs new seals. If you have the proper tools and know-how you can get the parts for about 60 bucks. I'm waiting for the end of the season to have mine done by a mechanic. You can try bleeding the lines (check the repair manual). This might give you temporary relief until you get the seals replaced.

See if you can manually raise it once you unscrew the relief valve. If so, add fluid and see if it works and maybe where it is leaking. If it will not raise manually, you have another issue.
