I bought a used set of side rails, they're complete except for one base plate. I'd like to dimantle the base plates and get them and the standoffs chromed but it looks like the only way to separate the base plates from the rails is with a hacksaw. I don't see how I'm going to install a new base plate if I find it since the screw that goes up the middle of the rail is still there, with the head about totally corroded off. Are the newer whalers still using the same system as on the older boats. These came off a 67 Nauset, going onto my 62. I don't have to do the rechrome but now would be the time for it.

I just just did some work on my 67 Nauset's railings and was able to take the "baseplates" off the railings with a little work. On one I did manage to separate the plate from the rail though. I have not fixed it yet ( maybe this weekend... ) but could you not just drill out the old screw and put a new one in ?

Also, as I just happened to post on another thread, I had my standoffs re-chromed and they turned out very well.
