I am looking at a 25' whaler. The hull seems good, but the rest of the boat is gone. The gunway caps are missing, the floor was pulled and their is no hull id. I know nothing about whaler (and very little about boats and fiberglass), but i am handy and will try anything. How can i tell it is truely a whaler without the hull id? Should i stay away from any boat without a hull id? How may different types of 25 whalers where made? What was used to cap the gunway (and create the floor), and can it be replaced. What should a bare hull like this cost?

Thanks, for the help

I think that many of us here have seen that boat on Ebay: It's a Whaler alright, but I'm not sure what model it was. It could theoretically be made into any 24/25 Whaler you want but I suspect this is not the project for you even if the hull was free. But if it makes you feel better, check this out:

It is the ebay boat, my main goal is to make a safe boat for my family to crab the Chesapeake bay. I'm looking at adding a few bench seats and a tiller moter. Maybe after a few years, i'll build/buy a center console.

Can their be problems with the exposed foam? Can water get between the foam and skin, freeze and seperate? What should i look for?

I am looking at the boat this weekend any suggestions would be helpfull. i.e if xyz is true, don't buy the boat.

My theory is this was a revenge or a cuddy that was removed. How else would you get the fiberglass removed(and why) on the bow like that.

The work won't even compare to the headache of getting it titled and registered, legally.

I think this is a junkyard boat. I was in RI the other day and saw several boats laying on the side of the road- bulk trash pickup? It could make a nice planter in the front yard.
