1988 90 hp evinrude. What do you mount the engine to after removal? Horses? Custom made braces? Any ideas would be a great help.

Made a stand out of 2X4's, 3/4 plywood held together with lag bolts. I pulled the engine off under the old shade tree and slide the stand back under the house to work on. It's nice to be able to walk all the way around the motor.

My engine is a 40 hp mercury, around 200 lbs.

I just removed my 1985 Johnson 90hp from my Montauk. I rented an engine lift at the handyman rental. Best thing I could have done. I used the engine bolts to secure a 2x4 to the engine and placed it across two sawhorses that I made extra strong. I supported the skeg with a soft piece of wood on a concrete block to take some of the weight off. It doesn't look pretty but it works.
