I noticed some cracks in the gel coat near the bow step/seat. They appear to be stress cracks from some of my wild ocean adventures hear in Northern,Northern California.

Is there any need to address this situation or other postings that I should be aware of? I love my boat and want to keep it in one piece. I can live with the cracks as long as it doesn't compromise the integrity of the boat.

Tom-

What year is your Outrage? Are the cracks in the deck or the gunwale? How long and how wide are they?

Patching gelcoat stress or shrinkage cracks has been discussed a number of times and I think you'll find it fairly easy to find earlier threads that are pretty comprehensive if you open Repairs & Mods up to the past 45 days or more.

I'd be interested in the opinions of others here in the forum as to the likelihood that a 22' could be stressed in such a way as to cause cracks up there. I would have guessed (sight unseen, admittedly) that they would have been caused by something much more benign, like natural aging and/or weathering.

My 22 is a '92, and as yet (although now I'll be watching), I have seen no signs of that sort of thing. I wish you would describe the cracks some more, as I am curious.

Kingfish, thanks for the reply.
I have an 86 Seadrive model w/ Armstrong Bracket and 250 Ram Ficht. You are right, the cracks are probably not from flex. The cracks are along the edge of the checker rise and are about 4 inches long.

So, you suggest fixing with new gelcoat?
