I just purchased the Teleflex NFB Safe T-II complete system. It looks like a spot on match for the stock system. I was wondering if there are any tips for instalation, or any "heads up" stuff I should know about. Two questions come to mind...How do I remove the old system (ie from the bilge end or the console end of the hull tube) and what is the easiest way to install (again from the bilge end or the console end of the hull tube)

console part is easy, just takes some contorting(you). The cable will go right up the tube or you can tie the old to it and pull it through. The hard part is getting the old cable out of the engine, if it clears the side of the boat it will install the same. If it gets stuck it means you have to drop the engine to get it out. This does not necessarily mean removing the engine, just loosening the bolts and letting it fall back a few inches.

I just did this replacement myself. (Anybody want to buy some cable, pulleys, bezel and cable drum? hee hee) The job is very straightforward and easy to do. In my boat, that steering cable slid very easily up through the tunnel. As BigShot suggested, I did need to remove my engine to get the cable into the tilt tube. My 70 Johnson has 2 little tabs on the brackets and they hang down over the inside of the transom by about 1/2 inch. I had to remove all of the engine mounting bolts and winch the engine up an inch to get those tabs clear fo the transom. Then, I could get at the tilt tube. It sounds like alot of trouble but it really was easy.
