Today I was inspecting my boat, putting together a list of Winter projects and I noticed something that I had not noticed before.

I own a 1985 Outrage 18.

From the helm looking forward, above the forward hatch on the curved section of fiberglass above and between the two steps up front, the fiberglass was wavy or you could say rippled. I went up front and felt it and there was a substantial area where the fiberglass was not flat. Then looking around I noticed a few other small areas that were similiar in other places. Each ripple might be 1/2" wide, 5"-6" tall, and 1/16" to 1/8" of an inch in depth.

I have an issue with the floor section delaminating which I plan on fixing this spring but I am not sure what the deal with this rippled fiberglass is. It is possible that it has always been like that but I have not noticed it before.

Please let me know what you think it is and what might have caused it.

I had a great Thanksgiving - always my favorite holiday - and I hope all of you did as well. In spite of everything that has happened, there is still so much to be thankful for.

Thank you everyone for all the time and effort that you put into this forum which I find increadibly usefull.

Todd - I too have an 85 18.6 Outrage, but I have not seen similar ripples in mine - nor have I looked specifically for them in the area you mentioned. I'll go out at first light and inspect carefully. Mine has original finish and has never been repaired, so I suspect any such inperfection is just that, cosmetic only - I would sweat it unless there is an indication that it is soft underneath. I'll let you know if I find any that goes beyond just cosmetic. There are, on the [out] sides, some waves but I've owned a bunch of Whalers, and each has had similar waves. Mav

Ripples are very common on Whalers. My bow area is not smooth but then again it does not look like tree roots are coming up. Hard to tell without photos.

I'll try to take some photos tomorrow, I don't know how visible it will be in photos. I think that the long fall shadows might be making me see things because I looked at the back yard yesterday and said, "Hey, I thought the lawn was flat, now it looks all uneven!"

'Till tomorrow, Thanks
