My binacle (the thing that controls the motor on the console) is chrome and is badly pitted and corroded. Anyone have any ideas for repairing it, or replating. I also have the same problem on the hand rail at all of the joints between the horizontal and vertical parts.

Have the same situation on my OR-18 ('82). When I calculated the replacement costs (also included fittings on console grab rail) they didn't look nearly as bad as they did before. The posts that anchor the ends of the console rail are $45 each, and there are 4 of them. The binnacle control (Yamaha in my case)is cheap by comparison.
You could buy a nice boat for the price of all new fittings and a new binnacle control.
I tried to buy the Newport console that was on ebay a while ago, just to get the rail fittings, but got sniped at the end of the auction when I was distracted by other things and wasn't paying attention.

Your (binacle?) Morse Control is probably a MT-2, If you want a new one I think they only have the MT-3's now.
I just bought a used MT-2 for my whaler for $75.00 from a boat dealer so there still around. Check ebay and call or email various boat dealers you should be able to find a used one with some effort.
I think you can only rechrome the side and the handle, I don't think it comes totally apart to rechrome the main section.

Morse MT-3's are available at West Marine for $299. The MT-3 looks just like the control on my '79 Montauk. What is the difference between the MT-2 and the MT-3?
