i purchased rod holder front cushons from
whaler tim he did a beautiful job on them
my ploblem is i dont know the best way to
mount rod holders so poles stay vertical
any tips on what type oh rod holders or
shims to use. how many rod holders ?

thank you for any help you guys can give me

You have 2 options: Buy the rod holders from a Whaler dealer (this is what I did) or find a Montauk that has them, copy the mounting brackets, fab out of teak or starboard and attach off-the-shelf rod holders. My only complaint with the Whaler supplied units is that the rod tubes are not slotted, and the reels tend to bang against the windshield. I solved the problem by buying some brown rubber doorstop wedges at a hardware store, and I use one to secure each rod in the tube with the reel away from the plexiglass. It works great and protects rods, reels and boat from banging.
