Greetings all. I bought my old Nauset 17 for $350 complete with trailer and a rebuilt 40 hp Merc. The boat was in kind of rough shape but I used it all year anyhow. It planes with three people and gear and I am 245 lbs. Do you think that although I don't know how much she is supposed to weigh, it is safe to assume that no 17 with only a 40hp would plane with 3 people if it was seriously waterlogged? Thx for any opinions!

Im sure there is some water in there. Try not too keep in water for long periods of time.
The boats walls at the stern should be planed in the water about 1/2 to 1 inch depending on motor wieght when its sitting (with the battery etc out of the back floor.)

Sounds like your in really good shape however.

I would make certain that the drain hole is capped off from the bilge well to the outside. Rainwater from this area is common way for water to end up in the rear inside the hull.

Thank you Capt. As a matter of fact, the transom drain is all screwed up with the copper tube more or less gone. I know water may be seeping into the hull from there. Just another project on a list though.
