My boat has not been run in 4 months and today I got it started but water is not coming out of the drain hole(1988 200hp Johnson). Water did appear to be coming from the exhaust holes. I shut it off after a minute but is it likely the pump is not working because the boat has been sitting or could it be something else?

Whaler 5, check the "tell tale" hole and all tubing for blockage... Blow through and make sure passage is clear. It's likely that that's the problem, hope so anyway. But if you have more than about two yrs on the impeller you are due for a new one and one yr. is a good rule of thumb if salt water and sandy/silty use... Another reason for changine the pump is that you free up all the bolts and spline... grease up and put back together for some peace of mind... Clark.. Motor Pool Div of Spruce Creek Navy

2 seasons ago I had the same problem. Mudd wasps nest from sitting in the field.

On the thread 'Tool to take', or some such thing, someone suggested always having a 3 foot piece of trimmer string just for such things. I've never had it yet but sometimes the blockage is just something sucked in while underway. Now I never leave home without it. It's part of my toolbox.

Hope that's the only problem. If not, and if it's been more than a couple years do as Clark suggested. As a matter of fact this is the year for me to do the same thing. Only a couple-hour job.
