I am currently in the process of buying a 1956 15ft whaler and have a few questions.
Is it possible to remove the bottom paint and restore to the original fiberglass?
The boat currently comes with a 1986 50hp yamaha outboard ,I am wondering what the life span on an engine like that, should it be rebuilt?

1956 ? I do not think Whaler's were made prior to 1958. Are you sure of the year and make ?

it is possible but before you head out to do it, remove some on the transom and see if the gelcoat is shiny or dull. If dull and scratchy the boat was prepped(etched) right and it will look like hell and be hard to remove. If not etched right(most are not) it will be nice. You will probably need to do a boot stripe so you do not see where dull gel meets shiny at the waterline.

As far as the engine needs a rebuild when it blows up.
