I have a 1958 13 foot Whaler, Hull # 854 and a 1964 Johnson F-18B Outboard. The Outboard is equipped with a 5 conductor electric start/choke system. Does anyone have a diagram as to how to connect the wires. Note, this boat does not have the OMC "power pack" system. The conductors connect directly to various spots on the engine. Thanks!

If you don't get an answer here, I see 2 choices. One is to go to your local marine store and try to find a shop manual for the engine. The other is to drop Johnson a letter and get the info from them. In the past, they have been very helpful to me with old information. They even went as far as to send me the copy of an old 1953 Johnson 35 outboard motor manual. Or was it a 1958? I don't remember...

Ahoy, Jaspell.

If your '64 18hp Johnny is a FD-18 I have the book for installing electric start, including a wiring diagram.

If you verify that it is a FD-18 I can list the harness connections for you.

Lemme know.
