I've been installing stainless steel hand rails in my bathrooms because my wife recently had knee replacement surgery. On a whim, I brought two of them out and rested them on the bow of my Sport 15. They're 18" long and fit perfectly within the non-skid areas on each side of the bow. I mounted them using the included 3" stainless screws and used 5200 to seal the holes. (There is wood located in these areas - see the diagram in the reference section).

I bought them at Home Depot for $18.00 each. Obviously, these aren't full size bow rails, but they do give you something solid to hold onto when bringing in the anchor, won't interfere with getting on or off the boat, and they look pretty good too.

I'll post some pictures if anyone's interested.

Post the pics!

I am nearing completion of redoing the wood of my 1977 15' Sport and realized that I want to add additional rails just forward of the front thwart seat; something for the kids to hold onto.

Your solution sounds like it might work for me.
