Am trying to touch up a few areas on the foot of my 2000 Yamaha with the factory touch up paint and it looks like crap. Doesn't seem to match very well eventhough it is the correct paint. The Yamaha paint is a blueish grey metallic and looks different depending on the direction you spray. Also, it doesn't have the same gloss as the factory so I thought about applying a clear coat over the finish if I can get the color and consistentcy the same. Any suggestions?

The paint should be a perfect match. I had a similar problem. The cause? The dealer gave me the paint for a four-stroke engine, but mine was a two-stroke. Apparently, there are subtle differences. Additionally, there are sublte differences from year to year. I'd return the paint and ask the dealer to be more specific in his selection for you. When I was provided the correct paint (year and model specific) a perfect match resulted.

I hope that this helps.

Yamaha has 2 colors....the bueish grey and the dark charcoal as on the V-max etc. Tempo is ditto and both do not match 1990 and up yamahas. I went to a local automotive paint shop with the hood, ten minutes and $12 later I had matching paint that was glossy.
