just purchased a pre-owned outboard from out of state. i'm looking for some guidance on how to have it packed (crated) and shipped. what issues should i be concerned with.

Just a couple of thoughts concerning the packing. First, do you have to arrange packaging/shipping for it from your end? If so, I'd try to contact a dealer in the area, get the crate from one of their similar models, put your outboard in the box and see if there would be a way to arrange to have it picked up from the dealer. The shipping might be cheaper. You might have to throw a few dollars in the dealer's direction but it just might be worth it. I had an outboard shipped to my house about 7 years ago and it came in a really neat create...I'm sure the dealer would be glad to be rid of atleast one crate...
