Has anyone ever modified a 15' Super Sport by removing the original bench seat and replacing it with a center console? If so, any pictures? Any problems with stability?

I didn't replace the console but I raised it up about 6". It makes it much more comfortable to sit at and steer.

See Cetacea page 28 for a shot of my custom 15 "Killer". The 15 is a blast to drive standing up... you will love it! happy Whalin'... Clark... SCN

Very nice job on the 15' center console modification, Clark. My back hurts after being crunched over after a day of cruising. Do you build the consoles yourself or buy them? (I saw elsewhere you've done several.) I like your setup, but what would you think about having 2 bucket seats in front of the console instead of just the one? Not only would that accomodate more passengers, but also would make clear visibility for a seated pilot.

SB, the console in my 15 came from the local Carolina Skiff dealer. Skiff makes very good , in my opinion, consoles and have many to pick from. As to the twin seats in front of console, well, the 15 needs a narrow console to allow passage on each side and twin seats most likely won't work. If height of front seat is the problem then a lower, single bucket seat might work nicely. I have no visibility problems with the high passenger seat, however. I know the "pain in the back" thing after hunching over a low helm all day and that's why almost all of my Whalers end up modified. A comfortable seating arrangement is of prime importance to me and makes for more enjoyable boating! Happy Whalin'... Clark... SCN

When I bought my 16 it had 2 buckets and a wide original style, but sloppy console, and the clearance was bad for both. I have since bought a C. Skiff console and am looking for a cooler RPS style seat for added storage.

Thanks for posting more specifics on the center console. I like the idea of running the cables on the floor alot better than someone else's method of drilling a 3" hole in the hull.
