The forward, port, and starboard holds on my 1986 20' Outrage have 1 1/2" eyestraps installed. They appear to be aluminum, and corroded beyond recognition.Does anyone know why these were installed in the first place? If there's a valid reason, I'll replace them. If not, adios. Thanks for your thoughts!

The eyestraps were installed to hold short HD bungee cords (with spring style SS ends) which held the hatch covers down. They were of a chrome plated Zamac material, which as you say, seemed to corrode pretty easily. I have replaced all of mine with the black nylon ones from Taylor Made. |

lhg - Thanks so much. Were your eyestraps attached with screws or (as it appears with mine) rivets? Also, what did the other end of the bungee attach to? Please advise, thanks. |

If memory serves me, I think the eyestraps on the underside of the hatches are riveted. Mine have not yet corroded so those have not yet been replaced. The ones on the underside of the teak covers, and in the boat hull itself, where the "other end" of the bungee attaches, were all installed with SS screws. |
