My new (used) EZ Loader trailer had a bearing set fail and eat up the spindle. Can I have someone weld on a new spindle or do I have to replace the entire axle?

There is a product called, I believe, Speedy Sleeve. I had one installed on my Eazy-Loader after a bearing burnt out.

Sounds like a perfect opportunity to get one of the Champion Trailers Co. hollow spindle axle and spindle setups. According to the catalog the grease is injected directly through the axle and out a hole inside the bearing area.

They also sell very high quality trailer parts. I got some of the LED lights for my trailer and they work great.

You would be shocked how eaten up those spindles can be and still work just fine. Remember, the bearing doesn't actually spin on the spindle, it just rests on it. So even though it may look awfully bad the thing may be just fine in actual use.

As to the replacement, sure, you can have a new spindle welded on. The new spindle will run you around $15 or so and goodness only knows what the local welder is going to hit you up to attach it. The real problem is finding someone who can align it when they are welding it. Good luck on that one. In the end you can buy a new axle from Champion, have it in a week, pick up a set of new hold down plates and bolts for it, and not be out of pocket all that much money in the process. I replaced one of mine last month and the total cost was $165, axle, hold downs, and shipping. The reason I replaced it (and it had very baddly scared spindles from multiple bearing failures) was the brake mounting pads had rusted away and I was prepareing to mount a second set of disk brakes.

Oh, that lube system is called spindle lube, and its is wonderful.
