Restoring a '79 Newport 17. It is in excellent shape, but I just found a soft spot the size of my hand port side, inside floor, front. There seems to be small cracks in the fiberglass 1" diameter, like something heavy dropped there and when you push on it that area the area goes up and down 1/8" or so. It is right next to gunnal, front. Montauk diagram does not indicate any wood there. Was there wood there on the Newport? And how do I fix?

You have a spot where the fiberglass floor is delaminated from the foam core. You need to search earlier posts in this repair section for floor repair and delamination. One thing that seems to work is to pump West Systems epoxy into the void. I am sure I read a post here within the past 30 days about this technique. I think I also have an article about it at home. Let me know if you want me to email it to you.

Thanks for the information. I'll try it and let you know how it worked.
