I'm thinking about installing a pair of Pioneer 6 1/2 inch speakers on the two plastic covers that hide the fuel line hose in one side, and the lights cables on the starboard side. I thought that would by a great place to put them until I started thinking about the compass. Do you guys think this will adversely affect the compass readings??? Any other suggestions???

Thanks,
zpeed7

Is there enough depth to mount a speaker in those covers ? I once thought of doing the same, but my existing speakers would not fit, too deep.

Speakers can be mounted in these panels. Previous owner of my 18 did just that; now I am trying to figure out what to replace them with. Looking for some kind of courtesy light that will cover the speaker hole and not project out too much.

Guys--I am in the process of doing this very thing. The original owner put square Jenson speakers in the panels and the speakers dry rotted over the years. I bought the 6.5" Pioneer speakers and I am putting them in as we speak. I bought new panels from the OEM, a company called SSI Inc in Hollywood, MD. and I had them make me some extra 10" square pieces. I am using the square pieces to reinforce the thickness where the speakers will go. The old speakers had no impact on the function of the compass.

Thanks for all the tips guys.;) I'll take all your tips into consideration.

will: The pioneer 6.5's are great. I heard them in a 24' Outrage. According to the owner they came with the boat from the factory. They sounded great. DOn't know if they had an amplifier though.

Thanks again,
Zpeed7

SSI INC
Contact Vic Adams at 301-373-2372. They still have the original jigs so making them is no problem. They charged me $100 for everything. The Pio 6.5s" do sound great. My brother-in-law just put them in his boat with a Pioneer 30 watt x 4 CD head unit and it sounds excellent. Best of Luck.
